The research for this documentary has been informed by the CRIC research project.

CRIC: Cultural Heritage and the Re-construction of Identities after Conflict.
The CRIC project analyses the conditions and ideologies that prompt the deliberate destruction of cultural heritage; as well as the consequences at local, national and regional levels of this destruction, and the measures that can be developed to better inform reconstruction processes. The four-year CRIC project has been funded by the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme [FP7/2007-2013] under grant agreement n° 217411. Five countries were selected (France, Spain, Cyprus, Germany, and Bosnia), each with a focus on a different conflict of the 20th century. In each country various case studies were developed to provide historical depth, variation, and different temporal trajectories.

The findings of this four year research project have been many and varied. The themes explored by the project have been investigate through a number of more focused questions.

Die Recherche für diesen Dokumentarfilm wurde geprägt durch das Forschungsprojekt CRIC „Kulturelles Erbe und Identität nach Konflikte“

Das CRIC Projekt hatte zum Ziel zu untersuchen, wie die Zerstörung und der folgende selektive Wiederaufbau des kulturellen Erbes Identitätsbildung beeinflusst. Das Projekt untersuchte sowohl die empirische, als auch die theoretische Beziehung zwischen kulturellem Erbe, Konflikt und Identität.

Fünf regionale Fallstudien wurden durchgeführt (Frankreich, Spanien, Zypern, Deutschland und Bosnien)
